Job Profile :- As one of the projects in Synerg (www.cse.iitb.ac.in/synerg), we build and operate a Infrastructure as a Service Cloud (similar to EC2 from Amazon) here at IIT Bombay. Termed rCloud, this serves as a testbed to carry out research activities such as fine tuning live migration of VMs, developing different VM placement strategies and looking into ways of efficiently metering cloud usage. Funded by a a Shared University Research (SUR) grant from IBM, rCloud currently has about 70 cores with a shared storage infrastructure mounted via NFS on all cloud machines. We are seeking a software engineer to develop rCloud with advanced capabilities, maintain rCloud for use by CSE researchers and participate in research activities. The candidate should have taken courses in operating systems and data structures at the undergraduate level and must be proficient in Java and Java EE. In addition, knowledge and hands on experience with virtualization technologies such as KVM and Xen will be considered a big plus. We are seeking engineers at all levels – entry and senior engineers who have had at least 2 years of experience in systems administration and Java programming. Candidates will have to write a short exam and will be interviewed in the Synerg group as part of the hiring process.
